Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder, previously known as manic depression, is a severe mental health condition that causes extreme mood and energy level changes. Individuals with bipolar disorder alternate between periods of mania or hypomania and episodes of depression. These mood episodes can last anywhere from a few days to several months and can significantly impair daily functioning. The intensity and frequency of these mood changes can vary significantly among individuals, making this condition particularly challenging to manage.

Symptoms

Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder can include periods of unusually intense emotion, changes in sleep patterns, activity levels, and unusual behaviors. During manic episodes, individuals may feel euphoric, engage in risky behaviors, or have trouble sleeping. In depressive episodes, feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of energy are common. In some cases, a person may develop severe symptoms such as delusions or hallucinations.
